Tanzania was absolutely beautiful in January. You think you know what to expect when you go to a third world country but you just have no idea. You see the sad commercials and PSA's that are....informing you of the harsh life Africans live. They want you to save a child, send in money, and feel so sorry for their life. However after my journey, the life I pity is my own. I am so sorry for the way that I live my life and the way Americans, as a whole, conduct their lives. It's me that feels that I am lacking something essential to life, povrished from the lack of reality, and living in a "third world society", meaning that it's Americans who are behind the times. Not behind due to economics, politics, or even technology, but so behind Africa, that none of that really matters anyway. America in retrospect to Africa lacks greatly to say the least.
Here are some examples:
Can you imagine a day with no stop lights or traffic laws? NO! Because we find it hard in America to do the right thing even when laws are in place.
Can you imagine seeing two guys holding hands in America and not thinking that they must be homosexual?? NO! Because in America we are so ashamed of what people might think, that we deny ourselves the freedom of expressing love to our loved ones openly.
Africa is happy and hopeful and long suffering. They are content and loving. They are hard working, hard playing, unbelievably magnificent people. I only wish that one day America as a whole could learn from them. Learn from the very ones that we deny integrity so often.
